ECAO Summary Criteria for Consultants
Below is an overall perspective of requirements for consultancy
This may be very useful for those considering applying for prospective consultancy.
Please note one is only allowed to apply once and the applications of those who do not fulfill all three criteria below—exceptional intelligence, exceptional creative achievement (including education or equivalence) and ethics—should not apply and these applications will not be acknowledged.

Why do I want to apply for consultancy?
There’s a great advantage being a listed consultant, whether Member, Associate or Affiliate as your name will be available to Sponsors or other groups (by decision of the Executive Board) who may want to use you as a consultant.
Your fees and negotiations are entirely your own and you have the right to refuse any consultancy for any or no reason.
Once you have been retained (paid or contract), you are required to ethically perform.
Summary criteria.
There are three fundamental requirements for Membership
1. Very exceptional intelligence (less than 1 in 5000 in the population).
2. Exceptional creative achievement (Doctorate or equivalent plus creativity demonstrations but achievable with equivalent points systems for creativity below that minimum education plus creativity level).
3. Levels of ethics and morality reflecting sufficient to be listed and act as a potential consultant. This criterion is an absolute for any level of consultant (Members or Contributors).
There are four tiers of Membership: Candidate, Representative, Fellow, Professor and 14 levels within those 4 tiers.
If only either 1 or 2 is achieved and the criteria for the other is close to actualization (based on the detailed criteria listed at the time of application) the individual may qualify as a Contributor. There are two kinds of Contributor, Associate or Affiliate.
Associate Contributor. If neither 1 or 2 is achieved but both are close the individual may be an Affiliate Contributor. Finally there is the designation Adjunct Contributor. This is by invitation only and restricted to individuals who have demonstrated remarkable creative skills or remarkable creative potential. Whereas intelligence is usually taken into account, there are some Adjuncts Contributors who may be admitted purely on the basis of their creativity.
The minimum exceptional intelligence level to be considered as a Contributor at Associate or Affiliate level is more than 1 in 1000 in the population and usually but not always this applies to Adjuncts (but the invitation must be from the ECAO. Under no circumstances can an individual apply for Adjunct contributorship.
1. 2 and 3 are based on defined criteria and all decisions in that regard are final.
Affiliates may also be nominated by Fellows and approved by the Executive Board based on their exceptional creative achievement (for example, pioneering a discipline.
The following provides greater detail:
1. Very exceptional intelligence as demonstrated by appropriate evaluations. Membership requires evidence of convergent intelligence (so-called IQ on accepted testing) being at least at the 1 in 5000 level of rarity. Whereas as the validated membership of several ECAO-accredited exceptional intelligence societies (1 in 5000 or above) are generally acceptable, the testing situation is relevant (e.g. tests completed by mail and submitted are insufficient; because of this an alternative evaluation based on historical prodigy or genius demonstrations is acceptable —the SCHIQ)
2. Exceptional creative achievement reflects at minimum an educational achievement of doctorate with demonstrable creativity or equivalent creative accomplishment (reflecting divergent intelligence combined with significant convergent intelligence above based on a formal points system).
If items 1 and 2 are fulfilled, achievement effectively should be at the level of a doctorate at an accredited university to become even a candidate member. Moreover, to achieve membership as a Representative (i.e. full as opposed to Candidate Membership) as an ECAO representative, demonstrable creative achievement must be demonstrated as well. However, for those without doctorates, equivalents to achieve sufficient points can be achieved in other ways through a points scoring system, such as publications, master’s or other degrees or equivalents plus evidence of creative accomplishment.
3. Ethics and morality such that they can carry through and accomplish consultative tasks over a prolonged period. This means more than just absence of violations of ethical codes in any societies or of criminal record. It actively means interactions that have been consistent, appropriate and fair in other societies or organizations and a record of being able to carry through consultative tasks, with that expectation continuing such that future clients can reliably use the member as a consultant.
There is another ECAO track for those not yet attaining Membership called Contributor
Associate Contributors can still act as consultants.
They have attained either the intelligence requirement or the ECA requirement but not both but are close to the second requirement.
a. They have achieved either the required Exceptional Intelligence level (1 in 5000) but have insufficient points (though still significant) for the demonstrable Exceptional Creative Achievement criterion, or
b. An acceptable minimum exceptional intelligence level (1 in 1000) plus the Exceptional Creative Achievement level of points.
Affiliate Contributors have:
a. They have achieved either the required Exceptional Intelligence level (1 in 5000) but have insufficient points for the demonstrable Exceptional Creative Achievement criterion (but still the minimum required to be a Contributor)
b. An acceptable minimum exceptional intelligence level (1 in 1000) but have insufficient points for the demonstrable Exceptional Creative Achievement criterion (but still the minimum required to be a Contributor).
